Shared Laboratory for Research and Applications of Additive Manufacturing

The Additive Manufacturing Laboratory at CCM provides state-of-the-art resources for multi-material 3D printing, digital design, and advanced fabrication, supported by more than $2 million in equipment. The lab enables product-agnostic research and applications across industries, with expertise in integrating structural composites and functional devices.

Our team specializes in:

  • Merging structural composites with functional devices
  • Digital design and software integration
  • Multi-material additive manufacturing

We support our composite industry partners with:

  • Process development and optimization
  • Materials development & characterization
  • Mechanical and impact testing
  • Product design & prototyping

Capabilities & Equipment

We offer one of the broadest ranges of AM platforms available in academia, spanning polymer, composite, powder, resin, and metal-based approaches.

Core Systems

  • nScrypt Tabletop – Dual-head multi-material printer, ideal for combining thermoplastics/thermosets with printed circuitry.
  • nScrypt 3Dn 300 – Quad-head printing with micro-milling, drilling, polishing, and laser scanning capabilities.
  • nScrypt SuperScrypt – 6-axis multi-material system with additive, subtractive, and composite fabrication options.
  • Roboze Argo 500 – High-temperature thermoplastic and composite printing (up to 500°C).

Additional Tools

  • Fused Filament Fabrication (FFF) – 12+ systems, from benchtop to industrial scale.
  • Selective Laser Sintering (SLS) – Sharebot SnowWhite with 14W CO₂ laser for engineering-grade powders.
  • Powder Drop-on-Demand – Exclusive to UD; enables RF functionality in composites.
  • Ultrasonic Additive Manufacturing (UAM) – Fabrisonic system for bonding dissimilar metals.
  • Hyrel 3D 30M – Tri-head platform for experimenting with novel feedstocks.
  • Carbon M2 (Digital Light Synthesis) – High-resolution stereolithography with excellent surface finish.
