Center for Composite Materials - University of Delaware

Composites Research, Engineering and Advanced Manufacturing Technology (CREATE) Program

The University of Delaware Center for Composite Materials (UD-CCM) was awarded a 5-year Cooperative Agreement titled, “Composites Research, Engineering and Advanced Manufacturing Technology (CREATE) Program”, with the U.S. ARMY CCDC Army Research Laboratory on October 1, 2018, and has received $13.6M to date. CREATE is a comprehensive interdisciplinary program to create new composite materials, processing and manufacturing methods and/or use existing materials and manufacturing methods in novel ways to achieve new levels of lightweight, affordable, durable and multi-functional composites. CREATE is a vital and strategic program which directly supports the Modernization Priorities for the U.S. Army. Specifically, CREATE will advance the composite manufacturing capabilities for the Army Future Command’s Next Generation Combat Vehicles, Future of Vertical Lift Platforms, Soldier Protection and High Temperature Material initiatives where multifunctional composite materials provide ultra-lightweight structural, damage tolerant and protective solutions.

The CREATE program combines the best attributes of the public and private sectors and thereby create a seamless, synergistic, cooperative environment for University researchers and Army scientists and engineers. This collaborative program encompasses facilities sharing and personnel exchange programs, including an ARL residency program at UD.
