cmap Geometry input
- Click on the Geometry tab to create a lamina or laminate.
- The Geometry section is divided into three areas: laminate workbench, (left) sublaminate design (Center) and full laminate design and summary (right).
- Enter 0.5 inches for the tot. thickness. Enter 12 for number of plies in laminate. The resulting thickness for each ply is 0.04167 inches.
- Click Send to Workbench and SL (Sublaminate) button to populate the tables on the bottom and left. You have now created a simple [0] 10 laminate with material ID 1.
- We need to make a [0/90] 3S laminate so lets modify this laminate by making a repeat unit of [0/90]. To the right of the repeat unit layup make the size of a repeat unit equal to 2 . You will see the table below it increase in size to two rows. Now simply hit the Fill button to populate this table. Enter 90 in the second row entry under the angle header.
- Hit Send to Sublam to use this repeat unit in the laminate. You'll notice that the laminate in the center table is now fully populated as needed. Click on the Top right dropdown tab and select “ Angle ”. You now see the layup for this laminate which is unsymmetrical. Click the Symmetric button below the sublaminate header to make this laminate symmetric.
- We can now look at the effective properties of this laminate by clicking the STOPPED CLICK TO RUN button. It should change to RUNNING No Errors if you have correctly carried out the above steps.
- Click on the Effective Properties, Loads and Strains tab. The effective properties of this laminate will be shown on the left.
