cST - composite structures toolkit

Click on the image for a bigger picture

  • CST is a standalone module for structural design.
  • CST can be used to predict loads during ballistic impact for adhesive and bolted joints.
  • CST can be used to establish design allowables for armor constituents.

CST Interface

  • LabVIEW Based GUI for comprehensive design and analysis of:
    • Discontinuous Ceramic-Cored Sandwich Structures
    • Ballistic impact bolt design
  • Results are generated in real-time and allow the design engineer to identify important physical mechanisms.
  • Real time results allows design engineer can optimize structural elements through concurrent analysis.

CST inputs & outputs

    Model Inputs
    Model Outputs
Plate size and thickness. Plate bending stiffness.
Plate properties and boundary conditions. Kinetic energy of projectile and plate on impact.
No. of bolts, bolt properties and dimensions. Energy of deformation and static equivalent force.
Projectile mass, dimension and velocity. Force and tensile stresses per unit length at wave edge.
Damage area size and support details. Equivalent moments at wave edge.
Bolt pull out and shear stresses.
Optimal number of bolts for survival of ballistic event.
Radial elongation of plate, optimal bolt gap spacing due to in-plane and bending displacement.
Optimal support contact length and spacer height to avoid armor and structural collision during ballistic event.
