Composite Materials Technology (CMT) Program For Transformation of
the Army
ARL Center
of Excellence
The Composites Materials Technology (CMT) Program for Transformation
of the Army was established through a cooperative agreement with
the Army Research Laboratory (ARL) in 2001. The objective of the
program is to transition promising basic research into composites
technology solutions for Army's Future Combat Systems (FCS) and
the Objective Force. The CMT program was approved at a level of
$25 million over five years with annual increments in funding and
approval of the program plan.
This collaborative program encompasses facilities and personnel
exchange programs, including an ARL residency program at UD-CCM.
Overall, the program currently includes eleven UD faculty representing
four departments, as well as thirteen UD-CCM research professionals
working in collaboration with ARL scientists and engineers as co-investigators.
The full collaborative program provides direct support for five
graduate students and fifteen post-doctoral fellows, all of whom
are co-advised by ARL and UD-CCM co-investigators
The CMT program includes 19 projects in the following
