CCM Highlights Manufacturing at the JEC Composites Show
The JEC Composites Show, held March 30 – April 1, 2004, at the Paris Expo fairgrounds (Porte De Versailles, Paris) was a highly successful exhibition for UD-CCM. One of only a few academic exhibitors at the show, UD-CCM highlighted research in liquid composite molding and technologies that are ready to transfer to industry and government laboratories. Over the last six years, the Office of Naval Research has invested more than $8 million at UD-CCM to lead the transition to 21st Century multifunctional composites and manufacturing technologies for Naval Ship and Air systems. Through basic and applied research, the UD-CCM’s Advanced Materials and Intelligent Processing Center (AMIPC) has led the effort to transition Liquid Molding technologies to industry for both government and commercial projects. AMIPC has created an invaluable toolbox of virtual design, manufacturing, and QA/QC tools engineered to bring improved affordability and quality to liquid molding processing.

More than 200 suppliers and manufacturers stopped by the UD-CCM booth expressing interest in taking advantage of the AMIPC workshops, consulting, and prototype development services. Workshops impart invaluable hands-on learning of state-of-the-art Liquid Molding. For participants, complimentary lectures and laboratory sessions provide the theoretical and practical understanding to successfully implement the process in-house or to improve a current manufacturing practice. UD-CCM's consulting and prototype development services find genuine solutions for unique application challenges. Most importantly, UD-CCM continually updates its growing network of VARTM automation cells (SMARTMolding Beta Sites) with the newest advances in technology.

Workshop for the Industrial College of the Armed Forces
CCM held a workshop for the Industrial College of the Armed Forces with ICAF participation led by Dr. Sylvia Babus, Mr. Bill Jones, and Capt. Tom Carlson on March 19, 2004. The workshop focused on four project areas of interest to ICAF and concluded with a tour of the CCM labs.
